The next District Convention will be hosted by the Lions Club of Urunga - 18-20 October 2019.
The District Convention is approaching very quickly, and arrangements are well under way for this year’s Convention.
Located in beautiful Nambucca Valley area where you will see the most picturesque and relaxing scenery on the Australian Coast!
The Convention Committee consists of Lions from Urunga, Nambucca Heads, Macksville and Lionesses from Pacific City Lioness Club. Bellingen and Bowraville are assisting behind the scenes to ensure all is in readiness for your enjoyment and comfort.
The RSL Club is the primary venue for the Convention, boasting magnificent views of the Nambucca River and surrounds.
Nambucca Heads has many wonderful walking areas for a casual stroll or run, beaches second to none and a charming CBD and outer areas to cater for all with cafes’, bakeries, shops for those who “need” to have some retail therapy, clubs, pubs and accommodation to suit all, from campers, vanners to B & B’s and motels.
The Convention begins on Friday 18th October with Golf and Bowls in Urunga (just 15-minute drive North of Nambucca Heads). These “events” are for all. Golfers need to bring their clubs, but Urunga Bowling Club have offered to supply those who don’t have bowls with some for the day. A great way to start a weekend of fun and fellowship. This will allow all Lions, Lionesses and Leos to participate including the Cabinet Officers.
Registration will be open from 9.00am on Friday in the “Down Under Bar”, 2nd floor of the RSL Club.
The Meet and Greet will be held at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club on Friday evening. This will be a casual night.
Saturday lunch at the Nambucca Bowls Club will be hosted by the Pacific Lioness Club. The exhibition booth attendees will be well catered for at the RSL Club to be on hand to showcase their Projects or Foundations.
The DG’s Banquet will also be held at the RSL Club on Saturday night. A “Colourful & Classy” night of great food, fellowship and entertainment.
Sunday - Key Member and first Conventioneers Recognition Breakfast. This is for everyone who wishes to attend and to hear a great guest speaker Lion Lori Sheehan at the Island Golf Club Nambucca Heads, a 7:00 am start.
After the closing ceremony Macksville and Nambucca Heads Lions Clubs will host the farewell lunch at Bellwood Park. If the weather is unseemly it will be at the RSL Club with the same hosts.

Brian E. Sheehan, from Bird Island, Minnesota, USA, was elected to serve as second vice president of Lions Clubs International at the association’s 102nd International Convention, held in Milan, Italy, July 5 through July 9, 2019.
Vice President Sheehan is the founder and CEO of Rural Computer Consultants, a software development company.
A member of the Bird Island Lions Club since 1991, he has held many offices within the association, including council chairperson, long range planning chairperson, membership chairperson, retention chairperson, women’s initiative chairperson, MD convention chairperson and GLT area leader. He has also served as the chairperson of the Headquarter Operation & Finance Committee, USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum Seminars chairperson, Lions University coordinator, DGE group leader, GMT liaison and board appointee to several committees including Constitutions and Bylaws, LCIF Executive, LCI Executive, USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum and the Centennial Action committees. He has been a presenter at numerous Lions events, including the USA/Canada Forum.
In recognition of his service to the association, he has received numerous awards including Club Lion of the Year; the District 5M 4 Diabetes Awareness Award; the MD 5M Web Site Appreciation Award; the MD 5M Al Jensen Leadership Award; the Founders Membership Growth Award; six International President’s Certificates of Appreciation; an International President’s Leadership Award; numerous International President’s Awards; and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honour the association bestows upon its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
In addition to his Lions activities, Vice President Sheehan is active in numerous professional and community organizations. He has served as president of Bird Island Civic and Commerce, director of the Learning Funhouse and as a member of various school committees. He also received the 2011 U.S. Small Business Association Minnesota Small Business Person of the Year Award.
Vice President Sheehan and his wife, Lori, also a Lion and Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, have two sons and two daughters.
We ask all Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs to bring their Club Banner for display at the Convention. These will be hung in the main auditorium at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club.
FRIDAY, 18TH OCTOBER 2019
Friday Sport – These times have been arranged so ALL Conventioneers are able to attend if they would like to.
Bowls will be held at Club Urunga (Bowling Club), 20 Orara Street, Urunga Starting at 9.00am for amateur and seasoned bowlers. For those who wish bowls will be available. Bowls with be hosted by Jo Brotherton
Golf will be at the Cex Golf Club, Morgo Street, Urunga. Bring your own Golf Clubs - hit off at 9.00 am for 9 holes. Golf is hosted by Peter Brotherton.
Registrations will commence at 9.00 am at the Nambucca RSL Club and continue until 4.00 pm on the second floor (The Down Under Bar) There will be tea and coffee available during this time or there is a wonderful coffee lounge on the third floor for snacks and meals as well as drinks of all varieties.
The Executive and Cabinet Meeting will also be at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club.
The Meet & Greet is a casual night to relax and meet new friends and reacquaint with old friends and Lions from far and wide. It is in the Down Under Bar. Doors will open at 5.30 pm. This will be served platters of food, plates of fruit and coffee & tea station. A bar will be open for other beverages of your choice.
SATURDAY, 19TH OCTOBER 2019
A BBQ breakfast will be held at the front of the Nambucca Heads RSL Club for those who would like a good old-fashioned Aussie breakfast. Bowraville Lions will be doing the honours- this is at own cost.
7.45 am Registration and the Exhibition Booths will be opened for all to view in the Down Under Bar at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club.
During the morning there will be a live broadcast by Radio 2NVR with roving reporters doing interviews with Lions, guests and exhibition stands so, Lions, please be prepared to speak on your projects.
9.00 am the opening session will commence, this is in the auditorium at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club. Sergeant-at-Arms Lion Brad Weekes will begin proceedings with the Official Party arrival, local Aboriginal Elder Councillor Martin Ballangarry OAM, Flag Ceremony & Official opening and welcome by Mayor Councillor Rhonda Hoban OAM.
10.15 am Morning tea will be served in the Down Under Bar.
10.45 am Guest Speaker, PDG John Muller OAM – Service – Gateway to Fellowship, Retention and Membership
11.40 am Guest Speaker, Lioness Robin Lawrence, Pacific City Lioness Club – District 201 N1- Lioness Clubs - Our Journey.
12.00 pm Lunch - hosted by Pacific City Lioness Club - at the Nambucca Heads Bowls Club – across the road from the Nambucca Heads RSL Club. This will be alternate drop meals. There is a bar & coffee shop there for anyone wanting sweets and drinks.
1.30 pm Business Session at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club. This will include a 5 minute presentation from nominating Lions Club(s) for the 2021 District Convention.
!.30 pm Partners going to the Wharf Street Café will have a selection of “goodies” and drinks in beautiful serene surroundings.
2.00 pm The River Boat Cruise leaves for a relaxing meander around the waterways with afternoon tea served on the boat.
4.00pm Break for the day.
6.30 pm The District Governors Evening will begin in the Nambucca Heads RSL Club auditorium, this is a “Colourful and Classy” night. The dinner will be an alternate drop with tiered plates of desserts, tea, coffee and of course the bar will be open. The raffle will be drawn during the night with wonderful prizes worth over $5,000.00. A night of fellowship and fun.
Music will play in the background and dancing for those who choose to trip the light fantastic.
SUNDAY, 20TH OCTOBER 2019
7.00 am The Key Member and First Conventioneers Recognition Breakfast will be at the Nambucca Island Golf Club - Guest Speaker is Lion Lori Sheehan. Lori is going to talk on Women and Families in Lions.
It will be a hot breakfast served at the tables - no lining up hoping there will be food at the end. First Conventioneers and Key Members will be acknowledged at the breakfast.
8.45 am Final Registrations in the Down Under Bar – Nambucca Heads RSL Club.
9.00 am Business Session.
9.15 am Keynote Speaker 2nd International VP Lion Brian Sheehan – Motivational Service - The Gateway to Fellowship, Retention, Membership and Leadership. It will be inspirational to hear a such a highly regarded Lion speak.
10.15 am Morning tea – Morning tea will be served in the Down Under Bar.
10.45 am Guest Speaker NSW 2019 Leo of the Year Winner Nicholas Raphael.
11.00 am Remembrance Ceremony - Lion Stewart Payne will do a presentation of Lions and Partners who have passed on. These Lions and Partners will be remembered with a gift of remembrance.
11.30 am Final Business Session - Tamworth Lions Presentation for 2020 Lions Convention, DG Bill’s Presentations and acknowledgements.
12.15 pm Closing Flag Ceremony.
12.30 pm Farewell lunch at Bellwood Park hosted by Nambucca Heads & Macksville Lions Clubs. A great way to relax and enjoy the lovely scenic area with great food.
The 2020 District Convention will be hosted by the Lions Club of Tamworth in October 2020.
