CAMP GETAWAY - A project of Lions District 201N1

The aim of Camp Getaway is to provide a holiday for children aged 11 to 13 who would not normally have access to such an experience.

The program was established in 1992. The first camp, for twenty one boys, was held at the Harrington Scout Camp. From 1993 two camps were held each year. Children from the coast camped at Lake Keepit and children from the inland camped at Camp Elim (a project of the Baptist Church) located on the Lakes Way, Forster, two hundred metres from Seven Mile Beach and on the shores of Lake Wallis.

In recent years Camp Elim has been used for both camps, one for children from the coast in April and one for children from the inland in September. Over two thousand children have benefited from this program.

Campers are cared for by dedicated, professional staff who run a program which benefits the children in their social and physical development.

The coordinator and assistant of this contact all clubs regarding the date, transport arrangements and cost two months prior to each camp. Lions Clubs may participate by sponsoring children from their area to attend. Local Lions clubs also assist in facilitating the arrangements.
